Urban beauty
Rotterdam-West, built in the first decade of the twentieth century, is an urban development concept by Gerrit Johannes de Jongh. In 1880, he introduced the idea of wide boulevards with monumental buildings, to which spacious side streets lead, with homes for the middle class. Narrower side streets for the working class are connected to these street.

De Jongh’s ideas have worked well to this day. It is still possible to get skilled workers for work in the Stadsburcht who live in the smaller streets. And shopping streets such as De Nieuwe Binnenweg and the 2e and 1e Middellandstraat are still among the most pleasant in the Netherlands. This is also because these places have never suffered the effects of mass tourism. Here you will find ‘real’ exotic restaurants, not fake ones, and cheerful eateries with sunny terraces. In Rotterdam-West you will find entertainment venues for every target group within walking distance.

Central Station, Concert Hall de Doelen, the Schouwburg and various cinemas are ten minutes away by bike and by bus or tram. There is plenty of parking, so you will never have to search for a spot.
Rotterdam-West is a green urban area. The Mathenesserlaan and the Heemraadssingel are populated with plane trees that are more than a hundred years old. The Heemraadspark is just around the corner.
